It’s never too early to prepare for World Environment Day. We can, in fact, start celebrating it now.
The said environmental holiday was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972 as part of the United Nations Environmental Programme (wikipedia.org). It’s main purpose is to “stimulate awareness of the environment and enhance political attention and public action.”

Although it is a world-wide celebration, a particular city serves as the host every year. The host city for 2008 is Wellington in New Zealand, where the main international celebrations will be scheduled.
Here are some interesting stuff about World Environment Day 2008:
1. The slogan for 2008 is “CO2, kick the habit! Towards a low carbon economy.”
2. View photos of the host city here.
3. Click here for a list of host cities since 1987, see if yours was honored to be one
4. Need to kick-start your creative juices? Click here for 80 ways to celebrate the World Environment Day.
5. If there’s no activity in your locality, organize one and register it here.
6. Download some posters here and print them.
I’m thinking of a film showing of FernGully - The Last Rainforest for kids.

thank you for your suggestions on how i can help. i am doing my best on my end to at least lessen the ill effects of our present world to the environment. but i am only one person. so it is best to get the whole community started on it.
Great information and I know just the person to share this with!
Great to see Wellington get the opportunity to show the world about the reduction of co2. I believe if we all give one of the 80 suggestions a try, we will make a difference!
I don’t think that It will be easy to environmental problems, why? Because eradicating CO2 means going back to our old ways.(manpower, etc.)
Great suggestions! Thanks.
Hello…
@ Cake
What’s important is you’re already doing the right thing. Soon another person will do it too. It’s a snowball effect.
Thanks.
@ Theresa
That’s the idea.
Share and promote stuff that helps nature, which ultimately is for our own good too.
@ Linda
Some of them are quite easy to implement, even if within our family only. Who knows? That might be the start of something big.
@ Jan
Actually, the campaign is not to eradicate CO2. Plants give off CO2 too. It’ll be to reduce emissions to a level that can be absorbed by nature and not contribute to global warming. Not cause, but contribute, as there are many factors involved in global warming.
@ Panaderos
Life’s simple pleasures… we’re not that different. Wishing for a PS3 ain’t materialistic. Me, I hope fairy godmother gonna be gracious enough with an eeePC and a Wii. Humnn… that makes me twice as materialistic as you.
Panaderos…. a baker?
Thank you all!
Thanks for all the great information here. We ALL need to think about the environment.
