Okay, before anybody bashes me over the head with that potted plant, let’s shimmy over to this page and read John Godfrey Saxe’s poem, “The Blind Men and the Elephant.” Come on! It’s a nice poem and there’s a lesson to be learned. It was based on an Indian fable where several blind men, groping different parts of the behemoth, had different perceptions of what an elephant is.
Kinda reminds us of our scientists who are working on something related to the environment, huh? Please don’t get me wrong, I have nothing but admiration for these disciplined and focused individuals laboring on limited resources to unravel the mysteries of nature. It’s just that everyone seems to be preoccupied with stubbornly defining their own part of the elephant.
Case in point: The plant-methane link. Scientists from Germany have “discovered” that plants also produce massive amounts of methane, a greenhouse gas. I put the quotes there because the scientist acknowledged previously unpublished reports from the Amazon Rainforest that indicated the same. Now, since this errant discovery does not fit into the global warming puzzle, other scientist are hacking its methodology to bits and pieces. :mrgreen:
It’s no wonder people who proclaim that global warming is a big fake are exulting and amassing supporters. Which should not be the case since even the highly controversial documentary film, The Great Global Warming Swindle
There really is nothing new about global warming. During the era of the Dinosaurs, from 248 to 65 million years ago, our planet was warmer, the sea level was higher, there were no polar ice, and we had one super-continent called Pangea. Then there was the Great Ice Age, around 2 million years ago, when tremendous ice sheets sucked up and lowered sea level by approximately 450 feet below the current level. That, unmistakably, is a climate change and there were no human activities to induce it, although it did took million of years.
Global warming is not a fake or a result of mass hysteria, it has come to pass and it is happening again. Anthropogenic or not, it is us Homo sapiens sapiens who were bestowed the intelligence and privilege to be the steward of all God’s creations. Let’s hope we get our act together before the elephant becomes impatient. So, borrowing a favorite phrase from a web buddy of ours, whaddaya say? :grin:

I realized late that Global Warming is indeed a HOT issue and this post has been receiving nasty and rude comments. I absolutely support freedom of expression and intelligent discussion but cussing is a different matter. Sorry for closing the comments.

Yay, finally someone is saying what I´ve been thinking all the time. It is not the first time earth gets a little warmer. Okay, humanity is speeding this process up a little, but mother nature will equalize it. Dinosaur became to big and made to much poopies….SHAZAAM! no more dinosaurs. The same will happen to mankind….someday

Actually, that’s what we should be afraid of, that mother nature will restore the balance to the detriment of humans. Or maybe, we will evolve into another species.

Hope you’re okay now after you’ve let all those inner feelings of anger and insecurities explode on this blog. No. I’m not going to delete your comment. There is a lesson to be learned from it I would like to share with everyone.
The base value for loving nature and the environment is RESPECT. Since our ecosystem mostly is made of inanimate living things and organisms that humans consider of lesser intelligence, the only way we can truly take care of them is to RESPECT them first.
Now, if we claim to respect a rock, a tree, a bird, or a fish, why shouldn’t we respect a fellow human? We can be on different sides of a cause but that doesn’t mean we have to shake off our cloak of civility and expose our depraved cores. I can’t say go down to the level of dogs and worms because that would be an insult to them.
Fact, that’s how I gauge people who claim to be environmentalists. If they don’t show RESPECT for the ideas and principles of others, I know they have hidden agendas or simply needs to see a psychiatrist.
Now, Dany here, I’m thinking, isn’t an avowed environmentalist. I think he/she belongs to the other camp and simply reacting to the headline with personal attacks since he/she doesn’t have the facts to back up an argument.
But still that is his or her opinion and I RESPECT that, although I’m not comfortable with his/her chosen words. Since I’m a logical and rational person, the comment stays there.
If only he/she has read the content, it would have saved him/her a brief increase in blood pressure and some frown lines.

Seriously, I’m so tired of you global warming pussies trying to rally your leftist cause to scare the rest of you. It’s the sheep like you that are to blame for the massive breakdown of society what with every social program, human rights initiative, and allowance for illegal mexicans to cross our borders.
