Jaw-dropping giant freshwater fish: Siamese Giant Carp.
Hi! Welcome to this humble blog. You may want to subscribe to TN's RSS feed for updates. Thanks! :D
Far Eastern folklore and myths often describe giant fishes. Well, there WERE giant fishes. The Siamese Giant Carp or Giant Barb once stretched the tape at 10 feet and tipped the scale at 600 pounds. Large enough for a princess to ride. Even now, adults of the species seldom measure below 5 feet and 100 pounds.
The Siamese Giant Carp makes the basins of the Mae Klong, Chao Phraya (both in Thailand) and Mekong (Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia) rivers its home. Considered a delicacy by the local population, over-fishing and habitat loss has put the species on the Critically Endangered list.

That is absolutely massive. It looks like it could eat that person holding it up. Too bad it is on the endangered list. We need to take action and save species that are about to die. It is sad and we could probably learn a lot from them.

Almost can’t believe it myself. And to think the one in the picture is only half the size of what that fish can attain decades ago.

I really wouldn’t want to run into one of these in the water, or anywhere else.

We’re sure the carp also would rather not run into humans.
Or it’s the frying pan for them.
