Jaw-dropping giant freshwater fish: Mekong Giant Catfish.
Hi! Welcome to this humble blog. You may want to subscribe to TN's RSS feed for updates. Thanks! :D
This catfish requires a giant pan to fry in. The Mekong Giant Catfish can attain a length of 3 meters and weight from 150 to 200 kilograms. It was once a protein staple in the diet of the people living along the Mekong river (Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam) . However, overfishing and the declining quality of the water has placed the species in the Critically Endangered list.
It is illegal to catch one in Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia but fishing continues.

This fish is larger than any type of fish that would fit normally in an oven. The effort needed to cook this would be high because one would need to cook it in separate parts. It sounds about right that it is illegal to catch it, and that individuals would still take the risk of catching it for the reward of having the amount of fish meat that would come as a result.

Hi!
The people who catch it for food usually butcher it into manageable pieces.
The man in the picture is tagging the fish for study.
